SCOUTS CANADA

I was 13 years with the 10th Brampton wolf cub pack. All 3 of our boys were in cubs, and I stayed on, long after they had finished, and only stepping down, because I was missing much of their hockey. I progressed on to become a ‘Gilwellian, and was very proud of it. Cubs has given me so many happy memories, not just the fun, or the achievements the pack did as a whole, but to see many of these kids in later years, many going out of their way to say ‘do you remember me’; I sure did. The running of the pack was not achieved by me alone, over the years, I had many moms and dads become my assistant leaders.
While I ran the pack, we would never get cubs to do any challeges without doing it ourselves, & getting involved in everything. For many years we took pride in the pack wearing full uniform [leaders too], & that meant wearing the uniform shorts. In the 90's with the environmental changes, resulted in suggesting full uniform to be worn waist up only if parents agreed.

How, and why did I get involved...
When I wanted to enroll Alex in to cubs, I made every excuse to get out of becoming a leader. It was the ‘if you want your kid to be a cub, then you will need to become a leader’, that got me involved very quickly. They said one year, and only an hour and a half a week… I would like to meet that joker… I took over the pack the following year, and spent upward of 10 hours a week not including weekends; they were longer, but oh! boy did I ever enjoy it. Look well O wolves, look well…

May 1988 - tin can cooking - this was part of the cubs badgework, where they had to cook bacon & egg on a can. 'Kaa' is assisting some younger cubs to get it just right. Cubs worked in their 'six' to accomplish this task, 7 was eaten by a leader or assisting parent to see if edible. I remember one such egg tasting a bit gritty...
